I’m starting this blog to get people’s arguments for and against gay marriage. I personally am against gay marriage, but I would like to hear from both sides of the issue. I’m writing a few articles that I will be sending over the internet that I will post on this blog later. Some topics I want to discuss are the effects of tolerance and lack of tolerance of gays, morality issues, how legalizing gay marriage effects public school systems and children, freedom “of” religion vs. freedom “from” religion, procuration, crimes against nature, etc. Please give me your feelings on what the consequences should be if a church minister refuses to marry a same sex couple in a state that homosexual marriage is legal. Also what is your take on wedding vendors that do wedding videography, catering, wedding photography, etc. who refuse to service same sex weddings?
One of my issues with same sex marriage is that I believe that marriage is a sacred union between a man and a women. It has been a religious belief of mine but it is also a fundamental belief I have that has existed in society for centuries. I feel the union of man and woman through marriage is a strong social commitment, a spiritual union, a financial merger, a mental allegiance, a religious ordination recognized by God, and a joint effort to birth and raise kids in an environment that nature intended . I believe the very definition of marriage contradicts same sex marriage. Same sex couples are changing the definition of marriage. I am interested to know the reasons and motivations for this.
This said I believe that nobody should be treated with contempt no matter what sexual preference they are. I have met several gays who have been very pleasant and kind doing what they feel is best to contribute to society. I don’t dislike somebody just because they are different. I am against the actions that I feel are immoral and contrary to the fundamentals of society. I feel very strongly in the way I do, but I do my best to treat everybody I can with kindness and with an open mind. I have been to a lot of weddings over the years, and the recent events around gay marriage have sparked a desire in me to share with the world what I feel. I hope you have that same desire to share the things you feel are right with me on this blog. Thank you, and I look forward to reading your posts.
